A Full Circle of Strings: One Family Paying it Forward

As 2024 draws to a close, we want to share an inspiring story of the TRYPO community, resilience, and the magic of music.

In the world of music, connections are made not just through notes and melodies but through the shared journeys of those who love it. Today, we share a touching story of how one family, once a recipient of generosity, is now extending that same kindness to another. It’s a story of bass players, single moms, and the magic of community.

Years ago, “Peter” joined the Three Rivers Young Peoples Orchestras (TRYPO) as a scholarship student. His mom, “Beth” (names changed for privacy), was navigating the challenges of raising a musically gifted son on her own. Reflecting on those times, Beth shared, “Getting into TRYPO was a pivotal turning point for Peter. It gave him a sense of belonging and a social circle he never had in high school. He made his friends through TRYPO, and it gave him so much musical training, confidence, and motivation that he has carried with him ever since.”

Beth’s journey as a single mom supporting her son’s passion wasn’t always easy, but it was filled with determination and love. She knows firsthand how much difference a helping hand can make. That’s why, years later, Beth was touched to have the opportunity to help another single mom.

“Jackson” is a passionate bass player who discovered his love for music early on. His mom, “Elaine,” also a single parent, has been his unwavering support system. “It is not easy for me to ask for help,” she admitted, “but I have been a single parent since Jackson was six years old. TRYPO is a wonderful opportunity that helps young musicians play and learn music at a very high level. Jackson works very hard and dreams of continuing his music education and career.”

Elaine’s dedication to her son’s future resonated deeply with Beth. “I empathize so much with that mother and child,” Beth said. “It made me cry. I know how hard it can be, and I was so glad to be able to help them the way others once helped us.”

Jackson’s love for music shines through every word he speaks about it. “Music is as essential to me as the air I breathe,” he said. “From the time I wake up to the time I go to bed, music is a constant part of my life. TRYPO has given me the chance to learn, grow, and strive for new heights.”

This connection—two single mothers, two bass players, two families bonded by music and the support of TRYPO—is a powerful testament to the strength of community and the impact of paying it forward. Beth and Elaine may have never met, but their shared experiences and love for their children link them.

TRYPO has always been about more than just music. It’s about creating a home for young musicians to find their place, their voice, and their future. Stories like these remind us why we do what we do and why your support matters. Every act of kindness, every scholarship, every note played in harmony—it all adds up to a symphony of hope.

As we head into the second half of another exciting season at TRYPO, we’re grateful for the families, donors, and supporters who make it all possible. To Peter’s family, thank you for paying it forward. To Jackson’s family, thank you for reminding us of the beauty of perseverance. And to everyone reading this, thank you for being part of our community. Together, we’re making music and changing lives.
