Symphonette

Join TRYPO for our spring concert, Brand New Way, on Saturday, May 28, at Heinz Hall for the Performing Arts. The program features Sibelius’s “Suite for Violin” with Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra member Irene Cheng and “Lift Every Voice and Sing” with vocalist Dr. Zuly Inirio from UniSound’s Black Teaching Artist-in-Residence program. Becky Mack, Young Peoples Orchestra 2021-22 Concerto Competition Winner, will play an excerpt from Strauss’s “Oboe Concerto”. Composer and former TRYPO member Hannah Ishizaki will conduct the premiere of “Miniatures,” a string ensemble piece commissioned by TRYPO.

Apply now to audition for TRYPO this May 2022 to become a 2022-23 season member! Young musicians ages 12-18 join our Young Peoples Orchestra, Symphonette, Wind Symphony, and Percussion Ensemble to make music each week with other kids who love music!

TRYPO is pleased to host the 2022 PMEA District 1 Orchestra Festival and TRYPO’s Winter Concert both in the same weekend! We even picked the David L. Saturday, December 11, 2021, come enjoy our SYMcity Community Concert Series presented by Symphonette under the direction of Pierce Cook! Several small ensembles of students from Youth Chamber Connection will provide music throughout the exhibits as well. We hope to see you there!

A native of Pittsburgh, Kathleen Melucci holds the Principal Cello position with the Pittsburgh Opera Orchestra and  Chamber Orchestra of Pittsburgh. Kathleen holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music and Mannes College of Music. Her major teachers include Bernard Greenhouse, Steven Doane, and Timothy Eddy.  In addition to her orchestral positions, Kathleen is an active freelancer, chamber musician, and educator.  Kathleen is a member of the Artistic Staff at the Three Rivers Young People’s Orchestras (where she was a member at age 10), Youth Chamber Connection, and maintains a thriving private cello studio.
