Notes of Generosity: A Community Partnership with Northwest Bank

Throughout March, TRYPO’s Donor Month highlights the people and partners who help make extraordinary musical opportunities possible for young musicians across our region. Today we’re shining a light on one of the businesses helping power those opportunities: Northwest Bank.

For Northwest, community investment is not a side initiative. It is central to the bank’s mission.

“At Northwest, we believe that when our communities thrive, we all thrive,” the organization explains. As a neighborhood bank deeply connected to the communities it serves, Northwest focuses its impact on advancing opportunity through financial education, affordable housing support, and charitable giving.

Education partnerships are an important part of that commitment, especially those that help young people develop the skills and confidence they need to succeed.

Supporting Three Rivers Young Peoples Orchestras aligns closely with that vision. Through its ensembles, chamber music programs, and educational initiatives, TRYPO provides hundreds of students across the region with access to high-level music education and collaborative artistic experiences.

Why the Arts Matter for Young People

Music education shapes far more than musical ability. Young musicians develop discipline, resilience, collaboration, and leadership. These skills carry into classrooms, careers, and communities.

Research consistently links arts participation to stronger academic engagement, improved cognitive development, and increased wellbeing. Programs like TRYPO give students a place to challenge themselves creatively while working toward shared goals alongside their peers.

These outcomes reflect Northwest’s broader focus on helping families and communities build long-term opportunity.

Investing in Community

Northwest’s connection to TRYPO is also personal.

The bank’s Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, Devin Cygnar, has served on TRYPO’s Board of Directors since 2018, most recently as secretary. Northwest encourages its leaders and associates to support organizations they care about not only through financial contributions, but also through volunteer leadership and service.

That combination of philanthropic investment and engaged leadership helps organizations like TRYPO deepen their impact.

“TRYPO embodies the kind of community impact Northwest prioritizes. Programs like this open doors and foster long-term stability for people, families, and businesses,” the bank notes.

Supporting the Stage at Heinz Hall

Northwest’s partnership with TRYPO will be especially visible this spring. The bank is the concert sponsor for TRYPO’s end-of-season concert at Heinz Hall for the Performing Arts on May 23, helping make it possible for TRYPO’s young musicians to perform on one of Pittsburgh’s most celebrated stages.

For many students, performing at Heinz Hall is a defining moment in their musical journey. It is an opportunity to present months of hard work in a world-class venue while sharing their music with family, friends, and the broader community.

Northwest hopes its support helps create experiences that build confidence, open doors to future opportunities, and inspire a lasting connection to the arts.

A Shared Vision for the Future

For more than 130 years, Northwest has invested in programs that strengthen communities and expand opportunity. Its partnership with TRYPO reflects that long-standing commitment to supporting youth, education, and the cultural vitality of the region.

At Northwest, creating opportunity is at the heart of our community commitment, and partnering with TRYPO allows us to help open doors to meaningful, enriching experiences for students and their families. We’re proud to stand behind an organization that shares our passion for empowering the next generation.

Community partnerships like this help ensure that young musicians across our region have access to transformative artistic experiences and that the next generation of leaders, collaborators, and creators continues to grow.
