Senior Spotlight: David and Gracyn

by Emily Bovan

We are featuring two seniors from our cello sections for our final Senior Spotlight of the 2022-23 season. Learn more about David and Gracyn below!

David

David has been a part of the #TRYPOfam for five seasons. During his time in TRYPO, he has played cello in Symphonette and Young Peoples Orchestra. David joined TRYPO because of his parents. “At first, I just joined for my parents! I had never played in an orchestra outside of school, so meeting new people and playing fun music with friends that I had made along the way is what made me want to stay.” His favorite memory from his time in TRYPO is from the Conquer Carnegie Tour, when the musicians spent some time at French Woods. “Some of my favorite memories happened at French Woods in the summer of 2022. I went on a trapeze for the first time and did a knee hang! Also, I loved being towed in a raft behind a fast boat with my friend Ryan.” David is graduating from North Allegheny Senior High, and his future plans include attending the University of Pittsburgh to study computer science. His advice for future TRYPO musicians is, “Try to reach out to fellow orchestra members early! Friends make rehearsals much more fun.”

Gracyn

Gracyn has been a cellist with TRYPO for six years. She has participated in Symphonette, Youth Chamber Connection, and Young Peoples Orchestra. When asked why she was interested in joining TRYPO, she responded, “I had been in a youth orchestra when I lived in Chicago, and when we moved here, I knew I wanted to join another orchestra!” Her favorite TRYPO memory is getting to perform at Carnegie Hall during the Conquer Carnegie Tour. Gracyn is graduating from Mars High School, and she plans to attend the University of Tennessee, where she will major in communications with a focus on journalism/electronic media and a minor in leadership. Her advice to future TRYPO musicians is, “Don’t be afraid to make friends from other sections!”
