As Giving Tuesday approaches, we love hearing from TRYPO alumni about their fondest memories of playing in our ensembles. Today, we hear from TRYPO alum, Sarah Palermo:
TRYPO has a special place in my heart, and I truly believe it has shaped my life in so many ways. I joined Symphonette as a violinist in the 9th grade, and in the following years participated in YPO and YC2 until I graduated high school in 2018. I had always loved playing my instrument at school, but playing with groups of advanced musicians and performing challenging repertoire was eye-opening. These experiences ignited my passion for music and led to my career as a music educator.
I saw that the people involved with TRYPO, including the administrative and artistic staff, changed students’ lives for the better by providing opportunities that I wouldn’t have had otherwise. My goal is to do the same in my own life through teaching.
My favorite memory in TRYPO was the European tour in 2018. Not only did we perform in some of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen, but more importantly I made so many friends during that trip that I still keep in touch with today!
It is important to give to TRYPO on Giving Tuesday because it ensures that many students can continue receiving opportunities like performing in Carnegie Music Hall in Oakland, receiving instruction from local talented musicians including Pittsburgh Symphony members, participating in workshops with conductors and musicians from around the world, and going on life-changing tours like the one I did not long ago. I will always support TRYPO for what it did for me, and I encourage you to do the same.
